The FoodEapp is designed for unskilled field staff with no formal education in nutrition. The purpose of the application is to collect dietary data from the populations. FoodEapp can be downloaded and used on an Android tablet. It has an in-built multi-pass questionnaire consisting of five segments.
The first segment captures demographic information, while the second segment captures dietary intake such as meals of the day, the time of the meals, the place where meals were cooked and consumed, the name of food items consumed in each meal, the portion size of food items consumed in each meal, and probing questions on often forgotten foods such as snacks with tea, etc. and the multivitamin intake. We have a built-in library of food pictures called Food Atlas for portion size estimation. All the data processing, up to nutrient intake calculation, was automated. An in-built food composition database is used to calculate each participant’s day’s nutrient intake.
